Josh Lisner
Passion, dedication, and joy are the cornerstones of Josh Lisner’s musical journey. As Director of Choirs and Vocal Music at Edison High School, he leads a dynamic program that engages 180 students annually. Under his direction, choirs explore challenging and diverse repertoire, ranging from movements of Brahms’ Requiem to full performances of Fauré’s Requiem and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. His ensembles consistently achieve superior and Best-In-Class ratings at competitions, performing at prestigious venues such as David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. His commitment to excellence has led to invitations for his choirs to participate in national and international festivals.
Graduating Summa Cum Laude from Westminster Choir College, Lisner holds a degree in Music Education, where he honed his skills in pedagogy, conducting, and rehearsal techniques. His time at Westminster allowed him to perform with leading collegiate choirs, including the renowned Westminster Choir, Westminster Kantorei, and the Grammy®-nominated Westminster Williamson Voices, immersing himself in a tradition of excellence.
Over the past three summers, Lisner was honored to be selected for the highly competitive International Conductor Training Program at Cincinnati University College Conservatory of Music. During this program, he engaged in intensive instruction in score analysis, conducting gesture, and rehearsal technique. He refined his craft through rehearsals for significant works such as Mozart’s Requiem, Duruflé’s Requiem, Poulenc’s Gloria, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. In addition, he conducted movements from Bach’s Magnificat alongside the Credo of Haydn’s Paukenmesse, performed with a professional orchestra and chorus.
An accomplished soloist and chorister, Josh Lisner has performed extensively across the East Coast and internationally. His notable appearances include over 20 performances at Carnegie Hall, as well as engagements at Lincoln Center, Verizon Hall, and Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Recently, he was featured in the Netflix film Maestro, starring Bradley Cooper, a project he was thrilled to contribute to at such a high level. The album accompanying the film, which received a Grammy award, further underscored the significance of his contribution. Lisner is also a valued member of the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, singing under the direction of Yannick Nézet Séguin, and serves as a Staff Singer at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville.
