Messiah, G.F. Handel
Composed in the summer of 1741 and premiered in Dublin on the 13th of April 1742, Messiah is Handel's most famous creation and is among the most popular works in Western choral literature.

St. John Passion, Johann Sebastian Bach
Richardson Auditorium, Princeton University
The St. John Passion has an immediate, dramatic quality. Bach enacts, as a kind of musical equivalent of the Passion Play, an episode from the story detailing the arrest, trial, and crucifixion, with the words of the historical persons – Christ, Pilate, Peter, and John as Evangelist.
